The Nelson City Council (NCC) supports a diverse range of community events within its venues and the NCC Venue Hire Fund exists primarily to support community events hiring NCC venues for events which benefit the people of Nelson City.
The Nelson Regional Development Agency is the first point of contact for event organisers as we manage the administration of this fund and can also support with marketing tools, promotion and partnership opportunities.
The Nelson City Council has established the Venue Hire Fund to support community events (ie those which benefit the people of Nelson City) taking place in NCC venues. In addition to this, a venue community rate is available to a wide range of community organisations and groups seeking financial support.
What venues are included in the NCC Venue Hire Fund?
The NCC Venue Hire Fund is intended to contribute to venue hire fees primarily at the Trafalgar Centre. If applications are received in relation to other facilities these will also be considered.
How much funding is available per year?
A budget of $30,000 has been allocated to the NCC Venue Hire Fund for the 2020/2021 financial year. Applicants can apply for a discount on venue hire if they meet the criteria.
What is the criteria for the NCC Venue Hire Fund?
Your application will be assessed against the following criteria:
The organisation applying must be a legal entity such as a trust, company or incorporated society and must be able to provide evidence of this status
The principle intent of the event is not for private or commercial financial gain, though such gains may occur because of the event
The event makes a positive contribution to achieving the Council's Community Outcomes:
Our communities have opportunities to celebrate and explore their heritage, identity, and creativity
Our communities have access to a range of social, educational, and recreational facilities
The event should be financially accessible by a wide range of people
The event primarily benefits the people of Nelson City
Sporting or recreational events will be considered, so long as they demonstrate strong community benefits (this may include a ticketed event)
Not for profit events, that have an educational, social or community focus
